The Top Five Adventure Routes for Motorbikes in the UK

Whether you’ve just bought your first ever motorbike, or you’re a seasoned biker, finding a new adventure route is always exciting. Luckily, the UK is full of beautiful landscapes that you can take advantage of on your travels, so in this article we’ll be discussing our top five adventure routes that are a must-do!

John O’Groats to Land’s End

800 miles, estimated ride time: 5-7 days.

It will come as no surprise that John O’Groats to Land’s End tops our list of the best adventure routes in the UK for motorbikes, as this exciting route covers a whole host of iconic landmarks and incredible scenery. At over 800 miles long, you won’t be stretched for places to stay and eat, as well as things to do on your journey. While many strive to complete this route by foot or bicycle, taking your motorbike allows you to really make the most of what it has to offer in a more relaxing way – while you can complete the route in as little as 15 hours, it’s a good idea to take in the sights of the Lake District and Snowdonia, and there are plenty of opportunities to explore off the beaten path, too.

The Snake Pass

41 miles, estimated ride time: 1.5 hours.

One of the more challenging routes on the list is the Snake Pass that spans the Peak District. This exhilarating route starts high in the hills of the picturesque town of Glossop, and continues into wooded areas and valleys. You’ll travel along the twisty Mortimer Road, which is quite intense, so this route isn’t recommended for new riders, but it’s a great option for experienced bikers.

Minehead To Lynmouth

20 miles, estimated ride time: 45 minutes.

Moving further south, this route provides incredible views of the Welsh coastline and the Exmoor moorlands, and its shorter distance compared with some of our recommended routes make it more suitable for a day trip.

The Antrim Coast

60 Miles, estimated ride time: 3 hours

This scenic route starting out just north of Belfast in Larne is definitely one not to be missed! You’ll follow roads with sweeping bends up to Ballycastle, and continue up to Portrush where you’ll find the North West 200 race course. Many riders take this opportunity to have a lap or two, which is a great way to make the most out of your adventure.

North Coast 500

500 miles, estimated ride time: 5-7 days

A more recent addition to the motorbike adventure route scene, this 516 mile route highlights the very best of Scotland’s natural beauty. Running clockwise from Inverness, you’ll experience the varied terrain of roads that run through mountains and pass some incredible castles and beaches – you might even spot a dolphin or two if you stop off at Chanonry Point!

With the UK hosting such a vast array of scenic motorcycle routes, it’s easy to find something that will suit you and let you tick another item off the bucket list. Before you go, make sure to book any hotels and BnBs in advance so that you can appropriately plan your stop offs, and you’ll have the trip of a lifetime.
