Whether you love bikes or not, it is well worth a trip to Essex.
Essex has a long coastline, beautiful ancient woods, including Epping Forest, and a long history dating back to the Iron Age. It might not spring to mind as a holiday destination, but Essex can hold its own with more iconic locations like York or Brighton.
Motorbike Shows
Royal Enfield One Ride
The details are still to be firmed up, but due to the large number of attendees for last year’s ride, the organisers have announced the date for the Royal Enfield One Ride 2024. Head to Newcombe Brothers Motorcycles on Saturday, the 21st, of September, at 11 am to join many other motorbike enthusiasts ready for a great day out.
Classic Car Show
1st of September 2024, Braintree and Bocking Public Gardens – get it in your diary. A lovely few hours out on a sunny Sunday, this is a must-go-to event for all classic car or bike owners and enthusiasts. Ice cream and a beer tent and entry is only £5 – what’s not to love!
Keep an eye out for the Annual Classic British Motorcycle Meet & Exhibition, which is a great event for motorbike fans and is normally held in the first half of the year.
All-Year Motorbike Events
The Great Essex Bike Meet
It’s a sight to see even if you don’t like motorbikes, and it’s compulsory if you’re a biker in the area. The huge meet-up attracts riders from all over East Anglia and is possibly one of the largest regular meet-ups in the country. It’s friendly and inclusive, and you’ll see all sorts of bikes. Head to the large village green in Great Bentley, Essex and either bring a picnic or enjoy the tea and burgers put on by the Plough for the bikers.
I Did It My Way Motorcycle Challenge
A fantastic sponsored fundraiser that anyone can join in with to raise money for the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance. It takes place over August, and you just have to complete your epic route by the 1st of September. Register and share videos and photos as you go; you’ll be entered into prize draws, which include a helicopter flight and tickets to motorbike shows. Normally, the MCR also has a family fun day. That’s not happening this year, but keep an eye out if you’re in the area in future, as this incredibly popular day is sure to come back.
Biker Haunts
Revved Up Tea Bar
A brilliant biker bar on the coast. Revved Up appeals to many biker fans, particularly those who ride Harleys, and you’ll see large numbers of custom rides parked out front at any given time. It also sells biker gear, so you can update your look if you want at excellent prices. Great for a natter with fellow bikers or to sit and watch the world go by.
Original Tea Hut
It might look like just a small hut in the woods, but this has been a firm favourite with bikers since the 1930s. It started as a refreshment stall to the High Beech Speedway and is still known for its good food and drink, with meat products supplied by a speciality butcher in London. After the recent renovations, it was opened by a local MP and is beloved by people in the area.
Poulson Creative Customs
A great bike dealership for servicing, custom builds and top-of-the-range bikes. They are closed Monday and Tuesday, but head over for a great place to chat bikes with a cup of coffee or indulge in the food truck. They have a bike meet every Saturday.
